What are the special features of each type of industrial cooler?
Each type of industrial cooler has its own distinctive characteristics. In general, air cooling has lower efficiencies than other systems, especially in warmer seasons. In contrast, evaporative systems (wet cooling towers and evaporative gas condensers) have higher efficiencies and allow output temperatures close to the wet bulb temperature of outdoor air: this is due to the use of water. A compromise between efficiency, resource use and output temperatures is represented by adiabatic systems. Where, however, it is necessary to achieve fluid outlet temperatures below wet bulb temperatures (or even below zero), it is necessary to opt for a process chiller (or “refrigeration unit”).
