1. Installation context and requirements

In 2022, an Italian paper mill based in Mantua, part of an industrial group that had been operating in the paper industry for more than 50 years, expressed the need to implement an efficient cooling system to support its Tissue paper and packaging production processes.

The plant, located in an area with cold winter temperatures, needed to cool wastewater from its anaerobic digestion plant attached to the paper production process. Braga Vavassori Agency, an area consultant for MITA Cooling Technologies, was assigned to manage the project.

2. Proposed solution

MITA Cooling Technologies provided a targeted solution to meet the needs of the paper mill with the installation of three open circuit cooling towers model PME 5704 E CW. These towers were chosen for their “film” exchange pack, which is particularly suitable for clean water treatment.

The configuration also included:

  • a totally removable wall to facilitate internal inspections and maintenance;
  • an anti-condensation heater system to protect the fan assembly from low temperatures, ensuring constant and reliable operation even in harsh environmental conditions.

In addition to supplying the machinery, MITA offered transportation and installation services, ensuring support for the entire project.

3. Results and critical success factors

The implemented solution enabled the paper mill to effectively manage wastewater cooling, keeping production processes efficient and reducing downtime. The project benefited from the established relationship of trust between MITA and the paper mill, which had already used MITA evaporative towers in the past. The choice of the proposed solution proved successful due to its reliability and easy maintenance, essential elements for operational continuity in a production sector such as the paper industry.

In addition, the advice and technical support provided by MITA during all phases of the project helped ensure that the system was perfectly integrated with the specific needs of the plant.
