Iltar-Italbox Spa chose MITA Cooling Technologies to equip its new Hungarian plant with a high-performance cooling system, ensuring the smooth operation of its expanded polypropylene production lines. A tailor-made integrated solution, consisting of an evaporative tower and central water management unit, was provided, combining high performance and low noise.

Iltar-Italbox spa has a Europe-wide importnaza in the design and molding of elements and components in different thermoplastic polymers: expanded polypropylene (EPP), expanded polyethylene (EPE) and expanded polystyrene (EPS). As of 2024, the Group expands its boundaries with the establishment of Iltarian Plastic KFT, a production site in Tiszaújváros, Hungary built according to modern industrial design standards and equipped with advanced machinery for expanded polypropylene molding: the Hungarian site itself has been equipped with MITA cooling systems.

1. Client company and need

Iltar-Italbox Spa is a leading European company in the design and molding of thermoplastic polymer components such as expanded polypropylene (EPP), expanded polyethylene (EPE) and expanded polystyrene (EPS). In 2024, the group opened a new production site in Tiszaújváros, Hungary, with the aim of expanding its production capacity and competing in new markets.

The new site, designed according to modern industrial standards, required an efficient cooling system to support the high performance of the machinery used in molding expanded polypropylene.

The customer’s requirements were specific:

  • cooling of the production lines with a temperature jump above 40°C;
  • quiet operation to reduce noise impact;
  • advanced control and optimization of operating parameters to improve efficiency and reduce the use of resources employed.

2. Proposed solution

MITA Cooling Technologies provided a customized and complete solution to meet the needs of Iltar-Italbox.

  • At the heart of the system is the PME 2854 E 2V SILENT open circuit cooling tower, which features high cooling capacity and low noise emissions, thanks to low-speed fans and specially designed blades. This industrial cooler thus enables high performance while keeping the noise level within acceptable limits. Further added value is provided by the conveyor, designed to direct the air expelled by the fans, improving system efficiency and reducing the impact on the surrounding environment.
  • In support, MITA installed the MITA Control System, an inverter that manages tower operating parameters, ensuring continuous process optimization and significant water and energy savings.
  • In addition, a MITA System B/X cooling station was implemented with a monolithic concrete tank for water containment, complemented by a technical room for integrated tower water management (chemical dosing, salinity control, centralized control of operating parameters).

3. Results and key success factors

Thanks to MITA Cooling Technologies’ comprehensive solution, Iltarian Plastic KFT’s new production site was able to achieve the desired performance with optimal cooling of the production lines and significant energy savings. The thermal jump of more than 40°C required by the customer was achieved without compromising noise, while maintaining a comfortable working environment.

Critical factors that ensured the success of the installation include.

  • Custom design: MITA developed a custom solution to meet the customer’s specific needs.
  • High efficiency and low noise: the technical specifications adopted (low-speed fans, blades with special profiles) ensured high performance with low noise impact.
  • Advanced control: the automated management system optimized consumption and operating parameters in real time, also allowing the operation of the tower to be controlled from the group’s Italian headquarters.
  • Technical support: MITA offered continuous assistance during installation, ensuring the full functionality of the system.
